Benedictine Novice Makes First Monastic Profession

Sister Lucy Marie Fitzmorris, OSB made her first monastic profession at Saint Joseph Monastery on July 11th, the Feast of Saint Benedict. Sister Lucy Marie and the Benedictine community were joined by members of Sister Lucy Marie’s family for this joyous occasion.

Sister Lucy Marie is a native of Yukon, Oklahoma and grew up in Saint John Nepomuk parish there. She entered the Benedictine community of Saint Joseph Monastery in Tulsa in 2018 after completing her Masters in Computer Engineering at the University of Oklahoma.

During the Rite of Profession, Sister Lucy Marie professed her commitment to stability, obedience and fidelity to the monastic way of life. She received the black veil of a professed sister and a copy of the community’s constitutions.

Sister Lucy Marie’s profession marks the end of her Novitiate, a time of intense prayer, study and discernment. In addition to her studies, Sister Lucy regularly baked bread for the Sisters and served as sacristan. Her new ministry appointments include serving in the technology department at Monte Cassino School and serving as a community musician.

Sister Lucy Marie is the daughter of Deacon Cliff and Mariavis Fitzmorris of Yukon, Oklahoma.
